Yesterday, we held a news conference at the Radio Go Daddy studio. It was covered by all significant local media. National media attended via phone. I announced that Go Daddy has, in fact, agreed to purchase a 30-second commercial spot during the upcoming Super Bowl. We are presently in negotiations with ABC to finalize the associated contract.

We still need an approved ad.
We do not, as of yet, have an approved commercial. All of the commercials we’ve thus far submitted have been rejected. So what are we going to do? We are going back to the drawing board and are reshooting several more scenarios, with the hope that one or more of them will be acceptable to ABC.

Any ad we show will be "GoDaddy-esque."
Here’s what I can tell you about the commercial we hope to show:

1. It will star Candice Michelle, our Go Daddy Girl.
2. It will be "GoDaddy-esque." In order to be "GoDaddy-esque", a commercial must be edgy, hot, slightly tasteless and just a touch inappropriate.

We will make every effort to produce a GoDaddy-esque ad that is acceptable to ABC.
It is my sincere hope that although we are now in very different times — as opposed to the good ole days of the 2004 Super Bowl when we saw the flirting monkey, flatulating horse and crotch biting dog -– somehow, someway we will find some middle ground with the ABC Standards & Practices group.

Super Bowl ad spots are not cheap!
The starting price for a 30-second spot during this year’s Super Bowl increased two hundred thousand bucks — to a record $2.6 million dollars. To this, add the production cost of the commercial. So we are talking no small investment.

Look for our ad this Sunday during the NFC WildCard game televised by Fox.
As I mentioned in the blog posting prior to this one, we were able to get a commercial approved by Fox for airing on all of the NFC playoff games. The commercial, which we call “Window Washer” will debut during the 1st Quarter of the NFC Wild Card game between the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers. It will be the 3rd ad shown during the 5th commercial break.

I like the Internet version of Window Washer.
While I like the “television” version of the Window Washer spot, the one to see will be available only on the GoDaddy.com website. I can’t watch it without chuckling, and I’m sure that once it is available it will be a bit polarizing —- it's "GoDaddy-esque" in every sense of the word. We're going right down to the wire.
I expect it will be one to two weeks before we can get a Super Bowl ad approved by ABC. As always, the moment there is any news, I’ll post it on this blog.
