I am always one who is very courious about these ads and once again I cannot see what the big fuss was about on the part of FOX. they show Victoria's Secret and a few others that to me that were more offensive than GoDaddy's Exposure ad. In fact the worst one was the talking baby who vomited all over the keyboard right when I was enjoying my creamy cheesy salsa dip!!! ewwwwww.
GoDaddy is a great register place but I am still waiting for a really good commercial from them. DP's exposure was the best so far because althoughi t was sexy it wasn't porny like all those with CM in them.

I thought that NOT showing a watered-down, censor approved ad was good - stick to your guns, Bob! However, showing an ad FOR the Go-Daddy ad, was brilliant! It worked too - in our house our teenagers raced to the computer to see the real ad... Absolutely brilliant!

I'm a Go-Daddy customer and wouldn't go anywhere else for my domains and web products - actually, I'm not sure there is anyone else to go to - Go Daddy is the only domain company I'm even aware of, thanks to your advertising during the Superbowl!! (And just for the record, I'm a woman in my 40's and have never been offended by your ads.) Cheers!

Thanks GoDaddy for bringing smut to a family event. You need a new ad agency if that's the only thing they can think of to get people to visit your site. And before you say it - yes, I did remember your spot and visit your site. But I am here taking up band width not as a potential client.

I came to the blog today to look for a specific post, and I hope its still coming. Please comment on the salesgenie.com ads... Am I being overly sensitive, or were those ads racist? Football teams can sell sex by their cheerleaders, but godaddy ads are banned... but its acceptable to be racist? I'd rather sexy women are shown on tv than stereotypes.

Hi Bob!

Your ads provoke anger in some because they are in denial of the principle 'everyone has their price'. They can't stand to see it in action because they believe they are exempt themselves. Of course they are not and will rationalize anything at the moment of truth for a lot less and like it.

One other thing, point the finger at someone and there's three pointing back at you. So I guess many of them are the pervs. Your just having fun and I'd be doing the same.

I think it is sad when I read about those who like the edginess but feel uncomfortable watching in front of their kids. They are somehow afraid they are going to be bad examples.

I say they already are being a bad example in the fact they are being dishonest with their kids in the way of omission. Be yourselves!

It is far worse to try and hide things from your kids when they know darned well your not saints. Don't pretend, this only separates you further away.

Kids aren't as naive as they make them out to be! Just because they don't lead on to it, thats for your benefit they don't want you to freak out! Get a grip people! Get real!

Great work Bob. I'll be a customer as soon as I have some things to go live with.

By the way Danica is not a 'ho' as one of misguided peeps suggested. Danica is a class act (small c) I'd never want her to go to the upper 'Class' ;)

Hey Bob!
I had a cool idea to market Godaddy during Superbowl! Get with the companies who are doing a commercial with the Superbowl and if Godaddy is used for domain or hosting, see if they would be willing to place a "Hosted/Registered at Godaddy.com" at the end of the commercial.
It was a thought I had as a loyal Godaddy Rep!
Kudos to the marketing strategy this year! brilliant!

Yeah, Bob doesn't know what he is doing when it comes to advertising and marketing. There may be well over a million people that are going to go to godaddy.com tomorrow after the commercial airs. That's the last thing one would want from advertising....have people go to their website. How could that be nearly as effective as the ads who don't give people a real incentive to go patronize their place of business. Pathetic Bob, what were you thinking?

Shame on you, Bob! You are so unprofessional! Heading up a motorcycle rally that got toys and goods to needy kids. What were you thinking? You know those motorcycle riders are unprofessional people! Malcom Forbes, Elizabeth Taylor, Jay Leno, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tina Turner and Bill Clinton posed on a Harley for his campaign. Such shame. How could you put yourself in such an unprofessional spotlight by getting on a motorcycle?

Shame on you for putting commercials on air that show sexy women! People would rather watch almost naked women on prime time shows like Dancing With The Stars and Desperate Housewives.

Shame on you for all the other charity work and hundreds of thousand dollars you give away!

Oh...and shame on you for taking such good care of your employees! I think the employees should all give back the millions of dollars you have given to them through all the different give-aways you do and I think you should start making them pay for at least a portion of their benefits.

You are so unprofessional and such an adolescent!!

Phew...done venting. I feel much better now and hope I made my point. :)

GoDaddy hasn't kicked Network Solution's ass at all. Network Solutions is still the number one company for domains and hosting. They offer so much more than GoDaddy. YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET!!!!!!!!!!

I was a previous customer of GoDaddy but then went to NetSol because they're so much better and treat their customers RIGHT! They have toll-free customer service, etc. I would never reccommend GoDaddy to anyone.

I just stopped by to read Bob's blog on a friend's recommendation. However, I just had to interject.

As I scroll down the many comments and retorts I notice one thing. A long discussion about the commercials. What has been mentioned and no one seems to remember is that commercials are meant to promote discussion. So what if the commercial sucks or offends you or provokes any kind of emotion. The goal has been achieved, we are all here discussing it. I remember when the first GoDaddy commercial ran, everyone talked about it the next day. I had no clue what the commercial was pitching but I remember what the name was and I googled it to find out more. An effective commercial leaves a lasting memory about either the product or the company. As this weekend approaches, while some of us may not know what GoDaddy does, we all know that we can't wait to see "the GoDaddy commercial" during the game. As for showing it early, come on. Bob paid millions of dollars for a 30sec spot it makes NO business sense to leak it out early here on his website. So what if a few people he was with saw it. You don't even know who they are. They could be close personal friends or business partners.

As for the people who find the commercials offensive or have children who they feel should not be exposed to the commercials all I have to say is that is your right. Last time I checked this is a democratic country. While Fox and the FCC are regulators parents should be the ultimate regulators. The irony in this is the fact that the children are exposed to grown men punching, hitting, cursing, spitting and fighting with each other. But to expose them to the human body is offensive and appalling? They aren't even naked and to Bob's point go to the mall. You will see much more provocative attire. And let's not forget, most of us today have a useful tool called the remote control. Change the channel or turn off the TV if anything, not just GoDaddy commercials, offends you. It's your right and priviledge just as it is Bob's right to create an advertising medium to promote his company.

Good luck Bob, can't wait to see the commercial.

I loved the White Light ad.

It is the Superbowl and the REAL winner is the tech type who is registering domains with GoDaddy.

By the way, ARE you having some sort of 'register and win an appearance by' type of contest? I know some organizations that wouldn't mind having one of the GoDaddy representatives appear at a promotion for their websites. (Others might want to auction it off for cash...)

Keep up the good work. You guys offer great value for a good price.

Good luck and good futures.

Hi Bob,

I find it interesting that people are complaining about GoDaddy's ads for the Super Bowl. We do live in a free country, with free speech and I for one enjoy this freedom we have in our country.

I liken Tabs complaints about the Super Bowl ads to that of my girlfriends when I get her to watch South Park. She's totally against SP and everything it represents but the moment it comes on, who's laughing the most?

Pushing the boundaries of freedom of expression has been done since the beginning of time. How many artists in the world made a name for themselves by doing just that? They provoke thought, conversation, and sometimes laughter to get a point across to the viewer. My view on this is, if you are too sensitive to experience this, perhaps you should change the channel, join a local book club, or move to a communist country that will surely not allow such freedoms.

Oh and if they are too sensitive then what are they doing watching football anyway? It's not supposed to be too nice. I was so very disappointed last year when they had Prince doing the halftime show. How does Prince represent anything having to do with football? It's good to see this year we have an all American band playing like Tom Petty. Something with a little manliness to it.

Oh and one final question for you Bob... what exactly do you do on Super Bowl Sunday anyway? Throw a big party, enjoy the game with family, or go out to one of these crazy celeb parties around town? It's GoDaddy's biggest day, just curious as to how you celebrate it.
#26 Jerrod on Jan 31 2008, 14:08 Reply
When will be the next football game ?
#26.1 Clayton Valley on Feb 7 2008, 02:43 Reply
Actually, none of the half time shows have anything to do with football...but Prince wasn't a bit tame when he performed at Super Bowl last year. The bit when the screen/sheet came up with the "purpleness" holding his guitar in a certain way...scandalous!!! And very expected from those of us who are familiar with Prince. We all remember Darlin Nikki from Purple Rain, don't we? <evil grin>

As for the Super Bowl commercial leading everyone to check out Go Daddy's website...ingenious!!! I hope that the IT people are working overtime on Sunday since I'm sure that the site could crash with everyone checking out the commercial.

I learned about your company from your first Super Bowl ad. It was the cheapest prices I'd heard of. It looked like you were legit so I switched to you and have been quite happy with the service. Nice work. Thanks.

Anyway, I started writing to say that I find it amusing and entertaining that you actually have a commercial for a commercial. Ha! And all the buzz you generate each year around your superbowl commercials. It's marketing the advertisement itself. Brilliant, actually. Make people go out of their way to look for your commercial message.

Good luck. I hope it works well for you.

Bob,

Have you thought about actually giving money to help save the beaver. Yes, the woodland creature. Think of the publicty you could get. You could sell t-shirts that could say something along the lines of "godaddy supports saving of the beaver". Maybe even get on the morning talk show fox and friends and talk about how godaddy supports conservation.

Think of the ad campaign that you could generate on the words that "Godaddy will give a procedues of the profits from the sale of the branded shirts to save the beaver".

Anyhow if you like the idea consider it yours in trade for a free Godaddy saves the beaver t shirt.
#29 Marc on Jan 30 2008, 21:17 Reply
I second that motion Marc. My younger sister got a shirt she got for donating to some breast cancer rally that said "I helped save second base." I thought that was a tasteful, optimistic, and hilarious t-shirt! (But if anyone takes her up on it, I'll have to hurt them. Duty, you know.)

So slam a silkscreen out with a picture of the damn dam-rodent, with the words "Beaver Lover." A GoDaddy Logo on the back, I'm sure your graphics department could spin something classy up. Throw a buck at some worthy and uncorrupt environmental non-profit agency for each one sold, and call it a day.

I'd buy one.

I doubt that would solve the censorship and PC-Centrism though... it'd just be a good gag.

Cheers!

A pervert? Why James! I'm simply a normal, red blooded American. I'm not sure if you're aware, but having commercials that are slightly edgy is not what that word is all about. If that was the case, over 90% of us males would be perverts. And we know that's not the case.

Here's what I think: You need to get out more. Take a walk through the local mall and look around. One important tip: When you see the women at the mall — who are usually dressed in more revealing outfits that Go Daddy Girls will ever be — don't stare or people might think you're a pervert.

I must agree with Bob, I am a very conservative person both by nature and politics, but these ads only make my wife and I laugh. Super Bowl ads are not cheap and it is comforting to know that my web site is hosted by a company that is a model for excellent branding and a solid entity not about to go out of business.

I live in Florida and seeing an attractive girl in a bikini is virtually an everyday event. Those who have perverted thoughts and follow through with actions are perverts.

Just my 2 cents.
