Bob,

When I first found out about Go Daddy I had 3 domains with Network Solutions (as a subsidiary of Verisign).

I was using mydomain.com for domain control and I dreamt of the day I could do everything at my registrar.

Now I have 60 domains with you and I'm pleased as punch!

Silly suggestion: Consolidate domaintools.com (Name Intelligence) into the Go Daddy family, that way I use one account for everything. :-)

Thanks for all you do.

Now I gotta listen to the latest podcast...

I hope we meet one day, that would be cool.

It's refreshing to see Go Daddy's approach. Everything in the world seems to go by formula and rarely generates new ideas. Business can be fun and this approach show it.

Awesome commercials! Can't wait to see that Go Daddy chopper. Bet it's gonna be sick!

Keep it real Go Daddy!

Well, I just read all the people complaining about the ads - sick. The whole country is a bunch of sniveling cry babies, so easily offended. The world will always be sexist - until we start reproducing asexually. GET OVER IT - DEAL WITH IT!

Let me tell you about godaddy.com. It's the only business I know of that actually has people call me, in person, not a recording, to tell me that I can save a few dollars per month by changing some options. I also had someone from gd call me to tell me my credit card expiration date was coming up and that I needed to update, which I did over the phone, so that my hosting would not expire.

Screw the ads - this company knows how to do business and they do it the old fashioned way - with real people. I am a customer for life. Thanks Bob - you got it right.

Re: Rejected CBS ads

I like both ads, and thought it would be nice to display them online as a sort of online advertising (via Google AdWords, for example? or Affiliate program?)

I would like to run both ads at my web sites (as a part of affiliate program or via some other mechanism) should you provide a mechanism for it.

Hi Bob,
Your experience at your college registration was so close to mine. I just forged the counselors signature.. finally they caught up with me after my junior year. ( I had to do an extra six months at UCONN because I had failed to take a Zoo Lab.
I still hate lines..
Your marketing is right on target.
One question..Why not have a new GO DADDY model at every Super Bowl ?
Introducing...Pussy Galore, etc.. tie in with James Bond each year a new one...
Thank you,

"Me promoting sin, lust and wickedness in America? Wowza! Not me. I sell domain names Michael — not sin, lust and wickedness.

I, like you, do believe in God. But I think we see him a bit differently. I'd like to think when I come before him on my judgement day, he's going to show me his sense of humor, laugh, give me a high five and welcome me inside the gates with the GoDaddy Girl and the rest of the team."

Good luck Bob! Lol! You have created a god (little g) after your own lusts. Here's what will really happen that fateful day:

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books [of the bible], according to their works.

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
(Revelation 20:12-15)

Wherever you see yourself in that picture is your business. But to say that God will be laughing with you and welcoming the "whole team" with a "high five" like this is all one big joke, means you're either self-deluded or ignorant of the scripture when you state that.

Your friend,

Bob, what can I say?
I love women (as anyone who is familiar with my poetry can tell you) and I enjoyed your first ad as a fun spoof of Ms. Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction."
Obviously the GoDaddy Girls have their own inimitable charms and I have had the pleasure of viewing your ads since then, whether they passed the censorship committee or not.
While they're definitely sexy, they're not porn and I see them as celebrating the sexuality of both men and women.
Always with a sense of humor, I might add...
I wonder how many women are not watching Jay Leno tonight because Beyonce is a guest... (in her little black dress!) (Tch!)

I am female and was appalled by the ad that you ran during the superbowl. Can you not see that it is demeaning to women? I already have some business with GoDaddy.com and was considering moving my web hosting to GoDaddy.com. However, unless you can give me reason to reconsider, I will be moving my existing business with you to someone else and will not consider GoDaddy for future business. Regards, Aileen
#10 Aileen on Feb 14 2007, 12:12 Reply
Dear Aileen,

There's nothing demeaning to anyone in any of our commercials.

Many women rather find the commercial entertaining, because they look at it like adults and see it for what it is. Others look at it from the perspective of "let's see what I can find here to be offended about." And when that's the case, as you might guess — they are successful in finding something to be offended about.

Appreciate your post,

Bob

I think the SB ad was totally inappropriate. Perhaps your marketing people don't realize that 40 percent of the SB audience is female. Yes, we have a sense of humor (collectively and individually). No, I didn't think the ad was funny. And, the men I've talked to since then didn't understand what GoDaddy is or does.

I love your ads. Candice Michelle is gorgeous. We see Victoria's Secret Models with next to nothing on TV. I really don't see what is all the fuss over your ads. But it's great marketing nevertheless.

If Candice said "where's the beef" for Wendy's, people would be in an uproar. Their just jealous.

If godaddy is so juvenile as to think that this ad is appropriate in 2007, then I'm grateful to know that I don't want to do business with pubescents.

Dear Jeff,

What about the ad is not appropriate, especially for 2007? Would it have been appropriate for .....say 2005?

It's easy to throw stones Mr. Jeff. But how about a few facts to back up your statements? After all this is supposed to be an intellectual discussion.

Regarding the domain name you suggest. It's already taken, perhaps by you? And, I'm sorry but I can't help but say that even though I'm 56 years old now, that....yes....sometimes they still are indeed funny.

#14 Dave on Feb 6 2007, 13:02 Reply
I know what you mean Dave. But, if the second one would've been approved, which I see no reason why it was rejected, it would've brought in traffic im sure. As the main thing was about domains, then they throw in the last part which makes it hilarious. The 2nd rejected was the only good godaddy commercial i've yet to see.

Bob,

Do you have children? Do you want them watching your ads? Do you have a daughter? Have you stopped to think about what your ads are teaching them? I fast forwarded your ad because my children were watching. Please think a little more about what is the right thing to do vs. what is the most attention grabbing. Why squander your life on success in some worldly things instead of using your life to invest in those things that will last and are good. There is nothing good about the choices you have made with regards to advertising on TV that I have seen thus far.

I hope you reconsider you approach in future. Otherwise, I may have to reconsider mine when it comes to domain registrations. BTW - you could have saved the $2.6 million or whatever it cost and you would have gotten my business anyway (another $32 today) because of the good reputation of your site. Think of the lives you could have effected for the good with that much money....

#17 CeeMee on Feb 5 2007, 15:42 Reply
Well, the first one I really wasn't thinking anything about domains. My eyes focused on the chick, and only the chick, no words being said, nothing else just her. Second one I loved. That was fully about domains, but in a humorous way and throwing in the i just did your mom and then the pervert bomb being throwed at him, was just amazing and creative. Would of been so much more better if the #2 rejected one was the one to show on the Super Bowl.

Saw your ad THREE times tonight!

If I understood it right , they showed the Go Daddy ad at the two minute warning because it was judged to be the best ad! Yay! Congrats! Especially after having the plug pulled on your ad in 2005 after only one showing!

"Everybody wants to work in Marketing!" Yes!

Saw the MSN superbowl ad results last night and I'm sorry to say that you (we?) didn't make the top ten there...

At least I could review my favorite ads and I guess I was mistaken in my impression that Candice was being sprayed with bottles of Champagne... That could get expensive if you did a lot of retakes of that shot!

So, are you framing Candice's "Game Jerseys" (with a still photo and an autograph) from each year and hanging them in the lobby? - or in Marketing? - or in the President's office?

I enjoyed both ads. Hot chicks sell (and Candace is surely hot) but the second ad (humpas) is what got me interested in what you are really selling (domain names).

I used to be one of those right wing conservative Christian types. I was brainwashed for many years and made to believe that sex (or anything sexy) was a bad thing, and I would go to hell if I had any "impure" thoughts.

Candace may send me to hell but your humpas ad may make me purchase a domain name or two.

By the way, the chick in the humpas ad is hot too!

From 13 tries to 3. Go us.

I've seen ALL the ads, both Internet-only and televised, since the day you first started advertising during the Super Bowl. Racy, yes. Good, sometimes. Edgy, certainly. MEMORABLE, all the way around. Which is entirely the point of advertising.

Sure, some folks are going to be offended/upset/whatever. Fine. It's a free country, last time I checked. (That same freedom of you having your opinion means I'm free to disagree with you.) They want to take their domains/business/whatever elsewhere, also fine. I say that as a customer and as an employee.

As a customer, I want to feel comfortable with where I do business. As an employee, I want our customers to feel comfortable with where they do business.

If GoDaddy is not for you, then by all means, go where you DO feel comfortable. I wish you the best of luck. Speaking ONLY for myself, I am more in favor of you taking your business elsewhere and being happy than staying here and being miserable.

BTW, Bob, going on my third year here at GD. Can't think of any place else I'd want to work. Or have my domains and business, for that matter. Having spent time on the phone with the competition, I'd do business here any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Which reminds me. My GD carpool's idea for next year's commercial (and/or photo opportunity in MAXIM).

Get one big photo of ALL the women who work here (not just the hot ones). All wearing the same t-shirt, with the following printed right across the chest.

Need to get some more customers to pay for your Super Bowl ad (gosh that's a lot of bucks)? Why not run some of your ads in Australia. Suggest the new aussie SCFIchannel on payTV or the free to air commercial sites. You'll blast all our ISPs out of the water. We desperately need some competition down under and Go Daddy could certainly do it! Pity you can't sell .au but hey .com is okay and .info could be good!

I think the first ad was definitely an attention getter but frankly I forgot what the message was. I liked the second one because I have worked in an environment almost exactly like that one. Geeks like to play jokes like that so it really made me smile. I think the womans response could have just been a look of disgust rather than saying "pervert" and it would have been more memorable.

Regardless I look forward to the version that made it passed the censors.

I'm not sure what the problem with the second commercial was. 1) It was hilarious. 2) It got the message across. What is up with network TV nowadays. Are they really so prudish that you can't say that you did someone? Honestly, this is just completely ridiculous. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with that. The first commercial was just OK. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the sexy woman, but it seemed too Sharon Stone-esque for my tastes. Hopefully you can at least find a venue for the second commercial somewhere, maybe during late night TV or something. Go Daddy!
